You can do this, so long as you use the serial number given to you by Sony. However, I lost the cd and now I cant reformat, and I need to reformat so I can sell my system. There is no need for that, anyway, since it only contains an image of Vista. Most of my drivers are installed because of Microsoft but my webcam, card readers, and touchpad don’t work properly because of dumb Sony. Sorry, there was a problem flagging this post.

by R. Most of the times you can call the computer manufacture and ask for a recovery disk, though they do charge for shipping and handling... thanks.
All in all a very labor intensive process to do manually and it will leave behind many traces of the previous apps.

In addition, the drive will be written to almost completely by temp files during setup. Just write 1's to the system drive and then factory restore.
