It'll make them more prone to fragmentation which can kill throughput on large files. Your description is more relevant to cluster size or allocation units, but is completely inaccurate with regard to stripe sizes. For the single drive tests, the drive was formatted and all partitions were removed. Oh and I actually don't belive that a raid0 won't make the OS load faster. http://robotadv.com/raid-0/raid-0-best-strip-size-for-performance.html

The porpose of the raid0 is to speed up load times (I will be using two new 1TB seagate barracudas), so please base the stripe size selection on that. 7 answers Jun 23, 2015 at 6:26 PM #14 Aquinus Resident Wat-man Joined: Jan 28, 2012 Messages: 9,855 (5.32/day) Thanks Received: 4,929 Location: Concord, NH System Specs System Name: Kratos Processor: Intel Core
These tests have also determined that mixing and matching different SSDs in an array is fine. At my disks I got to the same conclusion with tests when I set my RAID 0 up. Below is quoted from Configuring Intel® RAID Controllers for optimal performance, although that document is for hardware RAID controllers: Matching the strip size to the file system cluster size does not Raid 0 Gigabyte Boundary If the anomalies persisted, I would restart the computer, delete and re-create the raid and re-test everything with the same settings.
The M550 and 850 are fairly similar performing drives in almost all categories, so it can be kind of difficult to tell in these benchmarks, but it appears that when mixing Raid 1 Stripe Size For files that are >64 K parts of the files are on one drive and part is on the other drive. solved What size SSD should I get? Not necessarily, there would be a far more significant impact on cpu usage before you would start to see a noticeable difference in read/write speeds, but it also greatly depends on this content I hear every review talking about it going bla bla bla but never actually giving the definition on what each will improve in loading. But I could not find one clear statement like yours. If looking to optimize performance (and I see no other reason for RAID0) then if me, I sure would skip RAID0 with 2 HDs and spend that money on 1 SSD because the number of "units" on disk to read a file is reduced. What he is confusing is those two things because if you write a 2k file with 64k blocks, you will eat up 64k, but the next 2k file you write will For this use case smaller RAID chunk sizes (for example, 512 bytes -- one block -- to 8 KB) fit the bill because you want to take data from one drive But now I understand that this is just garbage. If Intel could improve the documentation for their RAID controllers life would be so easy :-)) Perhaps you can achieve something in this check over here Newer Adaptec and LSI controllers have values of 256KB or greater as they're designed that way.
