Continued on the step to add sdb2 to md1 and sdb3 to md2 (use cat /proc/mdstat to see mapping) Resync of disk started beautifully. Select the replacement hard drive and click Rebuild. I have just had to do exactly this, worked like a charm. work great on Ubuntu server 12.04 software RAID 1. Auto Offline data collection on/off support.
but it wont let me add it to the RAID1.. For RAID 1 you have a 50% chance of getting the right one.If you have a hot-spare, you can rebuild the array before doing this. This means that if you have data stored in that disk under other filesystems that are not in the RAID, then you need to backup that non-RAID data. However, sometimes disks are OK but the RAID is not properly assembled at boot time; in that case you should only execute step F. This was just the article I needed after one of my disks failed and I had to get the array back up and running. Backup. The disks now have identical partition tables and, most important, the new disk has a RAID partition of the same capacity and type as the RAID partition of the old disk.
